Physiotherapy is defined as identifying and maximising a patient’s ability to move and function. Functional movement is a key part of what it means to be healthy. Physiotherapy plays a key role in enabling people to improve their health, well being and quality of life.

Physiotherapy is used to treat / manage a variety of conditions including:

  • Sports injuries such as ligament injuries
  • Postural problems such as those that may give rise to back / neck pain / RSI
  • Rheumatic conditions, e.g. arthritis
  • Orthopaedic conditions e.g. post fracture / joint replacement
  • Post op rehabilitation (for pain relief and mobility)
  • Post delivery rehabilitation
  • Chest physiotherapy in cases after a chest or thoracic operation as well as in cases of COPD and chest infections

Treatment is determined following an assessment of the condition / situation, and may consist of manual therapy, exercises besides other modalities available to the physiotherapist.

Postural Screening

Assessment of posture, which includes scoliosis testing. The persons daily activities are taken into consideration, and exercises may be prescribed to counteract effects of a posture that is not ideal.

Body Composition Testing

A fast non invasive way of measuring body composition. This is done by bio electrical impedance, (i.e. resistance of the body to a battery generated current).

Results include:

Kinesiology Taping

This method of taping utilizes a tape which is flexible and stretchy. It is usually used in conjunction with other treatment methods for a variety of reasons including:

  • Pain relief,
  • Reduction of swelling,
  • Increased range of movement and
  • Effective muscle activity.

Deep Tissue Treatment

Deep tissue massage is a type of therapy that focuses on realignment of deep layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is helpful for stiff and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders and is useful for:

  • Reduced mobility
  • Pain
  • Injuries (e.g. sports injury)
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Postural problems
  • Muscle spasm or tension
